Our Days of Rage

The National Youth Theatre of Great Britain at The Old Vic Tunnels in Waterloo for a month-long season.

Our Days of Rage, written in response to the uprisings across North Africa, the Middle East and Middle England and staged over the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, will run alongside a new version of the ancient Orpheus myth, entitled Orpheus & Eurydice, a gripping love story underground.

A new version of the ancient Orpheus myth, entitled Orpheus & Eurydice, a gripping love story underground will run alongside Our Days of Rage, written in response to the uprisings across North Africa, the Middle East and Middle England and staged over the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

N.B There have been some last minute changes to the NYT schedule as follows:

Thursday 1 September will now be a performance of Our Days of Rage NOT Orpheus and Eurydice.
There will be an additional matinee performance of Orpheus and Eurydice on Wednesday 31 August at 2.30pm.
There will be no public performances on Tuesday 6 or Wednesday 7 September.

Cart Macabre

A Living Structures and Old Vic co-production in The Old Vic Tunnels. Cart Macabre is the newest work by hotly tipped performance collective Living Structures.

Two years in the making, this much-anticipated show, part theatre, part installation, finally sees the light of day in the dark of The Old Vic Tunnels.

Cart Macabre is a nightmare fairground ride through a dreamlike landscape. It’s a restless exploration of isolation and disorientation, an act of faith on the part of the audience.

Platform

The Old Vic Tunnels staged London’s most ambitious community theatre production Platform. Produced by The Old Vic Thetare’s education department, Old Vic New Voices, Platform involved 120 volunteer Londoners with movement choreographed by renowned physical theatre company, Frantic Assembly.

Hell’s Half Acre

Echoing the very first Old Vic Tunnels venture Tunnel 228, The Old Vic Tunnels teamed up with Lazarides Gallery to produce Hell’s Half Acre. Based loosely on Dante’s masterpiece The Divine Comedy, each artist produced a piece of work based on their own interpretation of this classic work of literature.

Scorched

After the worldwide success of Scorched, The Old Vic Tunnels were home to the British premiere of Wajdi Mouawad’s stunning, multi-generational, time twisting epic about the human fall-out from civial war and the power of forgiveness. A Dialogue and Old Vic co-production written by the most performed contemporary French-speaking playwright Wajdi Mouawad.

Dark Carnival (Red Light Night)

Dark Carnival was a 2 day promenade event that involved a plethora of performing artists from circus acts to poetry readers. Led by The Old Vic Tunnels volunteers Dark Carnival completely sold out and climaxed with Red Light Night, when the tunnels were transformed into a perforamnce club venue for one night only.

Drift

Songwriter Johnny Parry hosted this innovative weekend of music focusing on Love, Death and The Little Things In Between. Marrying the sounds of a chamber orchestra with a promenade around The Old Vic Tunnels, Drift showcased the talents of Look Stranger, The Gin Riots, Shelley Parker and Paul Purgas.

Villagers

Making their first headlined London appearance, Mercury nominated Villagers played 2 nights in The Old Vic Tunnels in August 2010. Co-produced with Live Nation and Domino Records, Villagers were the first ever live music artists to perform in The Old Vic Tunnels, both nights completely sold out.

Alan Moore – Unearthing

Co-produced with Tom Panton of Parallel Arts, The Old Vic Tunnels staged the reading of Unearthing by Alan Moore. The comic genius behind V for Vendetta, Watchmen and From Hell completely sold out both nights and attracted audience members from all around the world.

Slapdash

Slapdash was a three day festival of the best improvisers in the UK, all in one place for the very first time. Co-produced and supported by The Old Vic Tunnels, each evening was concluded with an Improv Jam, allowing the various teams to work together for the first time as a group to create something bespoke for the Tunnels. Groups included The Maydays, Friendly Fire and Horse Aquarium.

Exit Through the Gift Shop

The Old Vic Tunnels was home to the premiere performance of Banksy’s internationally acclaimed film Exit Through the Gift Shop. Transformed into a 150-seater pop-up cinema called The Lambeth Palace, over 4000 people attended the previews of this cutting edge art house film.

Tunnel 228
