A rare opportunity to see these powerful and poignant early works by America’s greatest playwright as the atmospheric depths of The Old Vic Tunnels play host to Eugene O’Neill’s rarely seen classic trio of sea plays; an inspired marriage of setting and scene.
Amongst the sweaty, industrial claustrophobia of the merchant ship SS Glencairn we experience the realities, complexities and camaraderie of a life lived at sea in the early 20th century.
O’Neill himself spent several years at sea and this came to be a prominent theme in many of his plays with a setting that reflected the ships on which he worked. These were the plays that introduced his genius to the world…
Following recent productions of The Iceman Cometh, A Moon for the Misbegotten (both starring Kevin Spacey), Anna Christie and the forthcoming Long Day’s Journey Into Night, complete your O’Neill experience with The Sea Plays.
